Cables Marketing Partner
Date: 27 Oct 2026
Location: Nottingham, ENG, GB, NG15 0EA
Company: CMS Distribution Limited

Job Purpose Summary
Cables Direct, a division of CMS Distribution, owns three brands: Cables Direct, Cablenet and Newlink. They are sold directly to trade customers through the CMS Store. CMS Distribution is a specialist distributor of business and consumer technology, and where most of its portfolio is vendor brands it represents, these brands are its own.
We are looking for a Cables Marketing Partner to own marketing for Cables Direct end to end. Because we own these brands, the role works differently from vendor marketing roles elsewhere in CMS Distribution: there is no vendor plan or vendor funding to work to. Success is measured in revenue and gross profit through the CMS Store. The work is continuous trading rather than occasional campaigns: winning new trade customers, converting them, keeping them and bringing lapsed ones back. Your audience is resellers, installers and contractors.
You will also shape the brands themselves. With no vendor guidelines to follow, you will decide what Cables Direct, Cablenet and Newlink stand for in their market.
Role Responsibilities
Trading & Direct Response
- Own the always-on Cables trading calendar in line with business direction: promotions, category pushes, seasonal and stock-led activity, planned quarterly and delivered weekly with the ecommerce team on the CMS Store.
- Own acquisition and retention for the Cables categories on the CMS Store, driving traffic and managing the customer lifecycle. Support conversion, working with the Ecommerce Coordinator and Digital Performance Manager, who own site-wide conversion, on search, site content and product page quality.
- Build and run lifecycle email programmes to the trade base, including onboarding, replenishment, category cross-sell and lapsed-customer reactivation.
- Build and run retention activity across the existing trade base, prioritised by commercial value and relationship history rather than revenue alone.
- Own paid and organic demand generation for the Cables brands within agreed budget, holding each channel to a cost per acquisition and return target.
- Work with the commercial team on promotional mechanics so that activity protects gross profit rather than discounting it away.
- Identify growth opportunities such as trade events, industry bodies and partnerships with wholesalers or complementary brands.
Own-Brand Development & Category Authority
- Develop and maintain the brand positioning, messaging and visual direction for Cables Direct, Cablenet and Newlink, working with the Creative & Design Partner on execution.
- Own the Cables content programme in line with central marketing and business direction: technical, standards-led material for the reseller or installer who has to specify a product and justify it to their customer, published through email and social media, and on the CMS Store with the ecommerce team.
- Support the ecommerce team on product content for Cables lines on the CMS Store, covering descriptions, specifications, imagery and supporting documentation.
- Contribute to brand architecture decisions as the relationship between the Cables brands and CMS Distribution develops.
Competitive Position & Sales Support
- Own competitor monitoring for the Cables category, including new market entrants, maintaining a current view of competitor positioning, pricing signals and messaging.
- Produce the sales-facing material account teams use in retention and win-back conversations, grounded in what the business can evidence.
- Feed customer service and operational issues back to the teams that can fix them, rather than covering them with messaging.
Additional Responsibilities
Measurement, Data & Reporting
- Report Cables marketing performance against revenue, gross profit, channel targets and engagement metrics, monthly to the business unit and into central marketing reporting.
- Work within the current measurement constraint: Cables marketing currently runs outside HubSpot, so establish and maintain baselines through Qlik, Google Analytics and store reporting, and act as a lead contributor to HubSpot onboarding when it happens.
- Maintain the customer and prospect data the programme depends on, including segmentation of the trade base.
- Apply a test-and-learn approach, recording what was tried and what it produced so that the next decision is better informed than the last.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as the named marketing counterpart for the Cables business unit, working closely with the Business Unit Director and the sales team.
- Operate within central marketing standards for brand, copy, data and campaign process, and bring Cables requirements into central planning.
- Manage the business unit marketing budget agreed with the Business Unit Director, accounting transparently for spend so that it is traceable to activity and to outcome.
- Share best practice with the marketing team and wider organisation, and own additional projects and relationships within CMS as required.
Skills & Personal Attributes
Skills & Attributes
- Direct response and ecommerce marketing capability: able to plan, run and optimise trading activity against revenue and gross profit targets.

- Strong written communication, including the ability to write credibly for a technical trade audience.
- Analytical capability across Google Analytics, ecommerce reporting and BI platforms such as Qlik, turning data into clear recommendations.
- Hands-on experience of paid search and paid social platforms, such as Google Ads, LinkedIn and Meta, and of an email marketing platform.
- Working knowledge of ecommerce platforms and content management systems, enough to brief and support the ecommerce team on product listings and category pages.

- Comfortable operating with imperfect measurement while working to improve it.
- Ability to build strong relationships across a business unit that sits apart from central marketing.
